Maryland Holiday Light Spectacular FAQ

The Basics
What is the Maryland Holiday Light Spectacular?
A walk-through holiday light experience at the Maryland State Fairgrounds: over a million lights on a half-mile trail, oversized performing snow globes, larger-than-life displays, Santa and Mrs. Claus, a winter carnival, a gift shop and food trucks. See everything on the trail, or read our story.
When is it?
December 3 to 30, 2026, 5:30 to 9:30PM on select nights: Thursday through Sunday for the first two weeks, then nightly from December 17. Early close on Christmas Eve, closed Christmas Day. The full schedule has every night.
How long does it take?
The trail is self-guided, so go at your own pace. Most guests spend 45 minutes to an hour and a half on the grounds between the walking trail and the attractions.
Where is it?
The Maryland State Fairgrounds infield, 2200 York Road, Timonium, MD 21093, directly off I-83 north of Baltimore. See directions and parking.
Is it for all ages?
All ages are welcome. Guests 4 and older need an admission ticket, and kids 3 and under get in free.
Tickets & Refunds
Do I need my printed ticket?
No. Have your digital ticket ready to scan from your confirmation email or mobile wallet. A printed copy works too if you prefer.
What is the refund policy?
All tickets are non-refundable, and the show operates in all temperatures and weather. Not sure of your night? The Any Day ticket works on any night the show is open.
What if there is severe weather?
The event runs in all weather, and only closes if the grounds are deemed unsafe. In an emergency closure, every effort is made to exchange your tickets for another available date. Follow the Facebook and Instagram pages for up-to-the-minute updates.
Are there group rates?
Yes, for groups of 20 or more. Email kelly@drinkeatrelax.com for school and non-profit groups, or team@mdholidaylights.com for family and social groups.

Most guests spend 45 minutes to 90 minutes under the lights.
On the Trail
Is there food and drink?
Yes. A rotation of food trucks and vendors serves the grounds, with hot and cold seasonal drinks, and seasonal alcoholic drinks for guests 21 and over. See the nightly food truck line-up.
Are there restrooms?
Yes, in multiple areas: the parking lot, the pre-show zone and out on the trail. VIP guests get an enhanced VIP restroom trailer in the village.
What are the ride rules?
Every rider needs a ride ticket, including children. Kids under 36 inches must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Santa Train is for children only, so riders over 54 inches are not permitted, and the Slide is one rider at a time.
Can I take pictures?
Absolutely, it is encouraged. Tag @MDHolidayLights on Instagram and share on Facebook. Commercial and professional recording equipment and tripods are not permitted.
Getting Here & Rules
Is there parking?
Yes, tons of free parking on site. Look for the giant inflatable on the road. Or ride the Light Rail to the Timonium Fairgrounds stop at the gate. See directions from your town.
Is there security?
Yes. Everyone passes through a security checkpoint before entering, and all bags are searched. Downsize any purses or bags you bring to keep the line moving.
Can I bring my dog?
No pets on the grounds. Service animals only.
Is smoking permitted?
No. Smoking of any kind is not permitted anywhere on the grounds.
Is it ADA accessible?
Yes, the grounds are ADA accessible with ADA restrooms on site. The trail crosses several terrains, including decking, gravel and asphalt, with slight elevation changes. There is seating in the pre-show zone and a rest stop halfway through the walk. Questions? Email team@mdholidaylights.com.
What to Bring, and What to Leave Home

- Cash. Most vendors take cards, but cash saves you hunting for an ATM if one does not
- Your own non-alcoholic drinks and snacks are welcome. All bags and coolers are subject to search

You and your belongings may be searched on entry. Violating these guidelines can mean refused entry or removal from the event without refund.
